The patent filed by Amazon details a system that could use a photo or video of a customer to pay for items bought through its online store. This could be a potentially safer option when compared to passwords and may take less time to complete.

The patent specifically mentions that a video could be used by the pay-by-selfie system for increased safety. This method could require certain actions, such as winking or tilting the head, in order for the transaction to be completed, reports Recode.

Amazon isn’t the only company that’s interested in the pay-by-selfie idea. Mastercard Inc (MA) announced that it will be launching a similar system that requires users to blink at their camera in order to authorize purchases made online.

Alphabet Inc’s (GOOG,GOOGL) Google is also testing a method called Hands Free that lets users pay with smartphones without having to get them out of their pockets. Part of the test includes using in-store cameras to take pictures of customers and compare them to stored profile pictures to complete transactions.
