Macy'sMacy’s Inc (NYSE:M) has announced plans to gear up for the 2016 holiday season.

Ahead of Christmas, Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, the retailer is hiring 83,000 workers to help out during the busiest season of the year. The figure falls short of last year’s total when Macy’s hired 85,000 workers–1,000 less than the previous year.

The company also owns the Bloomingdale’s department store chains where some of these workers will be employed. The decision to hire less workers compared to last year comes from the fact that the winter weather will be harsher and tourists are spending less money.

Early this year, the company shut down 35 to 40 stores. Last month, Macy’s revealed it would be closing down at least 100 more stores–it currently runs about 880 stores.

About 15,000 of its seasonal workers will help out at the company’s fulfillment centers, which is larger than the 3,000 hired last year. Additionally, about 1,000 workers will be at Macy’s customer service centers, and another 1,000 will help out during the company’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and similar events.

Other companies have announced plans to hire tens of thousands of workers for the holidays, including Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS), which is hiring 69,000 new employees.

Additionally, United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) will be dealing with increased demand and mailing activity over the holidays by hiring at least 95,000 workers.

Target Coporation (NYSE:TGT) is hiring 70,000 workers for the holidays.

M stock is down 0.6% Tuesday.
