According to a study from researchers at the University of Sydney in Australia, companies that sell junk food use Facebook to promote their goods. The study looked over the profiles of 27 junk food companies and found that they had high interaction with teens and young adults, reports Tech Times.

The study noticed that teens and young adults would share posts from junk food companies without any type of incentive. This has lead researchers to believe that the marketing of junk food is deeply integrated into social media, Tech Times notes.

“Any activity that users engage with on brand pages can appear in the news feed of their friends, so marketing messages quickly amplify across social networks,” Dr. Becky Freeman, of the University of Sydney’s School of Public Health, told Deccan Chronicle. “This kind of consumer involvement and engagement is unique to social media communication.”
