GOOG: Google Fiber Plans Austin Launch in December 2014

Google (GOOG) Fiber is coming to Austin, Texas in December 2014.

google-goog-fiberGoogle announced plans to allow residents in the south and southeast areas of Austin to sign up for Fiber in December. From there, the company said it plans to expand outward to offer its high-speed internet to more people in the city, reports PC Magazine.

Google didn’t say when exactly it would have Fiber ready for other residents of Austin, but it did say that it’s currently doing construction to offer its service as soon as possible. Consumers can pre-register for the service and if enough people in the area do so then the company will bring Fiber to them, PC Magazine notes.

Residents of Austin will pay $300 to connect their homes to Fiber. After this, they will have access to a 5mbps service for no monthly fee, reports ZDNet.
