Google (NASDAQ:GOOG,NASDAQ:GOOGL) is reportedly working on a service to challenge Uber.

google-uber-goog-googlBloomberg reports that Google is currently working to develop its own ride-sharing service. David Drummond, the company’s chief legal officer and senior vice president of corporate development, joined Uber’s board in 2013. He has reportedly told them that the company is working on a rival service and they have seen screenshots of its app.

Following his revelation of Google’s plans for a ride sharing service, Uber’s board is reportedly considering asking Drummond to resign from it. It’s possible that the Google ride-sharing service could take advantage of its self-driving cars, reports Bloomberg.

“The Uber experience is expensive because it’s not just the car but the other dude in the car,” Travis Kalanick, CEO of Uber, told USA Today last year. “When there’s no other dude in the car, the cost gets cheaper than owning a vehicle.”
