According to a recent report, the Deloitte data hack was discovered in March 2017, but may have originated from October or November of the previous year. Information that may have been stolen in the hack includes usernames, passwords, emails and other private data.

The emails that are stored on Deloitte’s server are likely the biggest security threat. Hackers gained access to them after obtaining a username and password that gave them access to everything on the server. There are at least six clients of the company that have been told the hack affected them.

Deloitte is still investigating the data hack and it doesn’t yet know who is behind it. It is possible that the attack was made by a larger group, or just a lone wolf. Either way, the consulting firm claims that only a very small numbers of its clients have been affected by the data breach, reports The Guardian.

The Deloitte data hack adds another breach to the long list of those in 2017. One of the most recent, and most serious, data hacks hit Equifax Inc. (NYSE:EFX) and was announced earlier this month. This resulted in the private information of 143 million people being stolen.

Another incident this year that was connected to emails came from an attack on DocuSign’s servers. Hackers were able to infiltrate the server that hosted the email addresses of users. However, no other information was stolen.

Here is a list of other hacks that have happened in 2017.

As of this writing, William White did not hold a position in any of the aforementioned securities.
