Instagram Search Update Surfaces Real-Time News and Trends

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook (FB), just got an update to its search feature in the U.S.

instagram-search-fbThe new update to Instagram search allows users to see real-time new and trends. Users that want to use the new search can click on the Explore tab on their app. This will bring them to a section that includes up-to-date hashtags, photos and news, reports Wired.

Instagram users can search in the Explore section of the app to find relevant information as well. Newer pictures and information will be shown first so that users can get an idea of the current state of an event or area. The new feature will also include trends that are happening near its users, Wired notes.

“We can look at all these festivals and concerts, but this is also pretty remarkable because you can see all these people putting sand bags down after a flood, for example,” Blake Barnes, a project manager for Instagram, told TechCrunch. “You really get to feel what they are experiencing, and it really brings you into the moment,”
